Angus McEwan - Fine Artist
Burbank, CA - United States
I was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1963.
In 1983 I went to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and did a Degree in Fine Art then a Post-Graduate Degree in Fine Art. I then took up a partnership with another artist doing commissioned art pieces and this eventually led to having a gallery in Dundee for a short time
I then decided to do a postgraduate certificate in Secondary Education at Aberdeen’s Northern College, gaining a distinction. Independent of my studies at college, I won the prestigious Alastair Salvesen Travel Award and Scholarship. When I finished my teaching certificate I travelled with my wife to China for approximately 3 months. During my stay in China I created a total of 51 pieces of work, which went on display in the Royal Scottish Academy, The Mound, Edinburgh. I was then approached to do some part-time teaching at Dundee College, teaching on the portfolio course, scientific illustration and life drawing.
Up do date I continue to teach 2 days per week at the college and this allows me the rest of my time to work on my paintings.
Awards
Over the years I have received a number of awards, which are always gratefully received, I won the Elizabeth Greenshields Award (Canada) twice, and a small travelling scholarship from the Art College, which took me to France and Italy.
In 1995 I was awarded the Latimer award at the Royal Scottish Academy. In the same year I was elected member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (RSW) who hold an annual exhibition in The Mound, Edinburgh.
